Frequently Asked Questions

What is PK386 (386) rice?

PK386 — also called 386 rice — is a fragrant, long-grain non-basmati rice grown in Punjab, Pakistan. It has a basmati-like aroma and cooking behaviour, with a post-cook elongation ratio of about 1.50, at a lower price than basmati, which makes it a popular biryani rice across the Middle East and Africa.

What are the export specifications of PK386 rice?

Export grade is 6.8 mm average grain length (head rice), moisture 14% max, broken grains 2% max, damaged & yellow kernels 1.5% max, chalky & immature 3% max, contrasting variety 7% max and foreign matter 0.5% max — well-milled, double / silky polished and sortexed (min 40 Kett). Other broken percentages can be milled to order.

What is the difference between PK386 white and Sella (parboiled) rice?

Both come from the same PK386 paddy. White rice is milled and polished raw. Sella is parboiled — the paddy is soaked and steamed before milling — which hardens the grain for a firmer texture, more separate grains after cooking and lower breakage, with a slightly golden tone.

What packaging and private-label options are available?

PK386 rice ships in PP, non-woven or jute bags from 5 kg to 50 kg, and in bulk. We also offer full private-label service with custom bag design and printing, typically from a minimum of 5 x 20' FCL for printed retail packs.
